Get to Know Melanie Hatter, Our New Director of Donor Advancement
We’re proud to welcome Melanie Hatter to My Sister’s Place as our new Director of Donor Advancement.
In this role, Melanie works closely with our donors and community partners to strengthen relationships and expand the support that makes our mission possible.
We sat down with Melanie to learn more about what brought her to MSP, what she’s looking forward to, and a few things you might not expect.
Melanie comes to MSP with a background in corporate communications and journalism, and for the past eight years she has supported service providers in the homelessness sector through donor communications, helping organizations build the relationships that sustain mission-driven work. She is also an award-winning author, and she brings a genuine gift for storytelling to everything she does. Above all, she is a compassionate leader who believes in the power of women to thrive when given the opportunity, a conviction she brings to both her work and the teams she supports.
What drew you to My Sister’s Place and this role?
“I first learned about MSP when I worked with the Playtime Project, which creates play spaces in shelters and continues to partner with MSP. I visited one of the shelters and was enormously impressed with the work being done to support women escaping violence. I’ve spent almost a decade with service organizations and love mission-driven work.”
What are you most excited to contribute in your work at MSP?
“I’m excited to get to know the donors and develop lasting partnerships that allow MSP to continue providing transformational support to women.”
What is something colleagues or supporters might be surprised to learn about you?
“I was born in Scotland. My mother’s family is part of the Clan McLeod.”
Anything else you’d like to share with the MSP community?
“I’m also a published author of two novels and a short story collection. My most recent novel, Malawi’s Sisters, was selected by renowned author Edwidge Danticat to win a publication prize.” Melanie Hatter
