Three Winners, One Team: The Above & Beyond Award
For the third quarter in a row, MSP’s Above & Beyond Award has gone to a member of the Advancement team, this time to Ashley Reiss, following Becky Bull and Denisa Caballero before her. Three different people, three different roles, one team.
This is the team that tells everyone else’s story: writing the appeals, sharing survivors’ stories with care, and making the case for this work to the community that supports it. This quarter, the recognition turned back toward them. Here’s the fuller picture behind each winner, and why their colleagues nominated them.
Ashley Reiss
Ashley is MSP’s Individual Giving Manager. She came to MSP from the National Park Foundation with deep national nonprofit experience, and this year she put it to work leading multiple fundraising appeals, including the Spring Appeal. What stood out wasn’t just running the campaign; it was the care she took analyzing the results afterward, always thinking about what comes next.
Ashley was nominated by Becky, who leads the Advancement team. “Ashley is like the glue that holds everything together,” Becky wrote. “She regularly says yes to projects she isn’t required to support, from testing new tools and processes to contributing original copy and storytelling for partner spotlights.” As Becky put it: “There are people who do their job, and then there are people who make everything around them better just by showing up. Ashley is absolutely the latter.”
Becky Bull
Becky is MSP’s Senior Director of Advancement, and she leads this team. She joined MSP from N Street Village after a career across several respected nonprofits, and in a short time she’s grown the team and brought in people who are already doing exceptional work.
Her nomination came from those she leads: “Becky is one of the kindest, most supportive managers I’ve had. She genuinely listens, makes time to brainstorm, and helps me work through challenges in a way that feels thoughtful and unhurried. Even though she’s still relatively new to MSP, she’s already created an environment where people feel heard and valued.” Another colleague put it simply: “I’m constantly amazed at how much she is producing, and the way she’s doing it, with such grace.”
Denisa Caballero
Denisa is MSP’s Communications Manager, and for three years she’s carried that work largely as a team of one. She’s not new to MSP, either; after starting her career at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, she first joined MSP as Outreach Coordinator years ago, later returned, and now brings institutional knowledge the whole team still leans on.
Her nomination captured what that looks like day to day: “Denisa is a rockstar and has been tackling the website rebuild in addition to juggling all things comms and marketing. She is consistently there to support all facets of the programs and dev team.” And the smaller things that don’t go unnoticed: “Taking the time to help with flyer creation, even when she has other priorities. She definitely goes above and beyond.”
Three quarters, three winners, one team. It’s the kind of momentum that carries into everything this team touches, from the next campaign to the next survivor’s story told with care.
