A Survivor’s Story

“I remember the first day I called My Sister’s Place and spoke with a staff member. She was the first light I had seen in a long time.

When it took longer than expected to be placed, I almost gave up. I thought about returning to an unhealthy and abusive marriage because it felt easier than waiting. But then I received another call — another sign of hope — at a moment when I had nearly lost it.

My Sister’s Place helped restore what I thought was gone. Through therapy, group support, and the care we receive at the shelter, I’m rebuilding my life and my sense of possibility.

I know that moving on will be bittersweet. I’ll be sad to leave the place that helped us heal, but I’ll also be rejoicing — because that’s the purpose of this program. To help women and children overcome the obstacles of their past and move toward something brighter.

My Sister’s Place was the light at the end of the tunnel — and now, that light is guiding us forward.”
